Principal's Update 15th June 2020

15th Jun 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope you are keeping well and managing to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. Long may it last! Somehow the good weather always manages to make us feel a little better. I can hardly believe that it is 15th June and school is still closed for the vast majority of our pupils due to this pandemic and lockdown. It is however reassuring to see that restrictions are starting to ease and we are gaining some sense of what life was life prior to Covid-19. There is no denying the fact that we have all had to make major adjustments to our daily lives.

Normally in the month of June, our school would have had many fun events from Nursery right through to our Seniors with sports day, prize giving, special leavers assembly and many more.  Sadly, we have been unable to carry these out, the way we usually would, as well as many other events that have passed in April and May due to the pandemic and adherence to Government lockdown guidance.

There has been much speculation about when and how schools will reopen for all pupils in August or September. The facts are at present, that the Department of Education have not issued any guidance to schools regarding school reopening and have stated that they will not be in a position to do this until 26th June 2020. To be clear, there is no definitive date for schools reopening following the Summer holiday period.

I understand that this lack of guidance at this stage is frustrating for you as it is for us however you can be assured that as soon as we have been issued with clear guidance going forward I will share this with you. Please contact me directly or speak to your social worker if there is anything we can help you with.

In the meantime, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and understanding and I sincerely hope that we continue to work together to support the health, well-being and education of all our pupils.

Take care as always
