School Connected to the Community - SWC

12th Sep 2025
At Knockavoe, we have long valued our close community connections - to the extent that we consider it such a value, that it features as a priorty in our school development plan!

A vital part of this strand of our school ethos, lies within our close partnerships with local training centres and colleges, as we collaborate to offer our KS4 and KS5 pupils access to accredited practical-based courses, that enrich their curriculum learning at Knockavoe.

On Friday, some of our FE pupils attended South West College in Omagh to begin a year-long course in Catering.
This course will imbue our pupils with the skills and work experience of working in a professional kitchen, learning about the fundamentals of food hygiene, and creating dishes for service.

The first day our pupils gladly jumped in with their tutor, Declan, and got their hands sticky making scones!

Plain; fruit; coconut; cherry and raspberry and white chocolate!

They then enjoyed the fruits of the labour by enjoying them with a very well-deserved cuppa.

As a school, we truly value and cherish these opportunities for our pupils to socialise in their community, network amongst their peers from other schools and colleges, and consider their futures beyond Knockavoe.

We are so proud of all our budding caterers and wish them the very best in their learning this year!!
